MCLT Education Professional on Board
September 2009
Project Manager Scott Fisher has his hands full overseeing the habitat restoration efforts at the 277 acres Waihe`e Refuge. So he was very happy to welcome Denby Freeland this Fall as MCLT's Waihe`e Refuge Education Coordinator. The part-time position was underwritten by a grant from the County of Maui.
Denby will assist the Waihe`e team by coordinating the activities of visiting school groups and assisting teachers in the development of appropriate lesson plans based on the wonderful assets available at the site. Hundreds of students of all ages from public and private schools along with summer programs use the Refuge as an outdoor classroom year round. Denby's Master of Education degree, knowledge of Hawai`i and rich work experience in environmental education here on Maui will serve MCLT well as we continue to connect more keiki with the land at Waihe`e.
